The Accidental Aviation Enthusiast
Zach's passion is airplanes...always has been and always will be. Both of his grandfathers were pilots and he remembers flying in his Grandpa's lap from the time he was two. When people ask how long he's been flying, his answer is "my whole life." He got his private pilot's license at 18, and has been flying ever since.
Me on the other hand, I never flew in a plane until I was in college. My very first plane ride was when I was 19 years old and I went to Italy. It was an 8 hour flight, go big or go home I guess. Traveling to Europe was amazing and I was hooked. I distinctly remember flying over the Alps and thinking that view was absolutely incredible. After that, I didn't hate flying but I looked at it as nothing more than a tool to get to my destination.
Zach and I met online; yes ONLINE! I had a roommate at that time who owned an airplane, and I went flying with him exactly one time. But that really cute selfie (see photo above) I got that day of me with a headset on in the cockpit was one of the ones I used on my online profile, and of course, it caught Z's eye. He messaged me and we started dating. On date three he flew up to the town I was living in, and flew me to Atlanta for dinner. I remember my mom saying it sounded like something out of a movie! Before that date I already knew I was well on my way to falling in love with Zach and that night I started falling in love with flying as well. The rest, as they say, is history...but that is the story of how I became an "accidental aviation enthusiast."
